Phones.. Or Handheld 'Do anything you want' Devices

So, thinking back to when one of my mates got a mobile phone, I remember them being quite large, heavy and “a lot” of fun. Taking that thought into today’s world however and it’s a totally different kettle of fish. One of the most popular of these old mobile phones was the Nokia 3210, the introduction to top quality mobile games and advanced SMS text messaging. The Nokia 3210 and 3310 phones were the most popular phones on the market, not only due to the success of Nokia itself, but also because of the technology these phones seemed to have. The use of predictive text and also a WAP feature, to download game packs and ringtones.

Thinking about all the hype about these phones however seems to be surreal, as less than 10 years later we have phones that are touch screen, able to connect to the internet via Wi-Fi and also able to store up to 80GB of pictures, music and videos, something which seemed decades away back in 1998. You will struggle to find a phone that doesn’t have Bluetooth capability and built in MP3 player in today’s world. How times have changed from the old monophonic ringtones and no ability to send anything other than a text message.

Nowadays, everything seems to be about the i-Phone, Apple’s new Mobile phone, which also acts as a software device, mp3 player, video player, you name it, it probably has it. However with all the hype surrounding Apple’s device, Google, the Internet searching giants have responded with the new Android phone. Google, who are big with all things internet, who along with a small company called Android have developed the Android platform, which does all things i-Phone can do. A mean feature however with the Android is the ability to create applications for use on the platform. Applications are becoming much easier to create with websites such as Facebook, who use developing tools for developers to create applications for use on the website.

So, what next? Well if someone would have asked me that 10 years ago I definitely wouldn’t have predicted phones to be as advanced as they are now, so advanced that the term phones cannot really be used for such multi-tasking applications such as the i-Phone and Android. Realistically, I can see the phone featuring satellite navigation systems, as it seems this is the only lacking features in these phones. Bigger storage will also be seen, handheld device which store more than a typical persons PC at home and also much more powerful. The future seems very hi-tech indeed.

So.. Lets get started.

I was asked the question.. "What do you want to get out of the course in addition to passing?"

Well i was hoping to gain further knowledge about Multimedia, in addition to my so far limited knowledge of it. I also wanted to be able to be very good at certain aspects, such as Film making and Animation.

Simple as that really, but best to take it step by step, i have got to survive Freshers first!!!

Whilst on the subject, "What did I get up to in the first week?" So far there has been a lot of drinking and not alot that has been done. My rooms a state and have yet to work out how to work the washing machine. I also need to get internet sorted in my room, the price is a bit steep (£150? What the hell?") and i have been unable to be able to get the cable working.

I've decided that power naps are going to be handy for the rest of the week before the hard work and grit begins next Monday.
